Messin’
Around is a mix is as diverse as the artist herself - adult-oriented
pop songs, smoking versions of jazz classics, and soulful
originals. This eclectic collection features new compositions
by Molly Johnson, producer Steve MacKinnon and Lenny
Kravitz’s guitarist/co-writer Craig Ross. With
compelling interpretations of songs by Prince,
Bruce Springsteen, and George Gershwin.
Messin’ Around showcases Molly’s gift as a vocalist
but also as a serious composer with over half of the songs
on the album (including the first single "Rain"),
co-written by Molly herself. The european release If
You Know Loveincludes the bonus original track
Avignon Blues. more

Molly Johnson. "Local heroine Molly Johnson is in great form on this disc...with her rich blend of blues and jazz confidently displayed. Flashes of Dinah Washington, Janis Joplin and Billie Holliday (whose "Don't Explain" is a treat here) colour the naturally warm textures of her voice... She's full of drama wit and heartache...surely one of the records of the year." - Toronto Star more |

Alta Moda. Their self-titled album, produced by Colin Thurston (Duran Duran, Human League), released in 1987 and took a lot of flack for being 'generic American funk', some radio stations even went as far as refusing to play the material because it sounded 'too black'. They declined a Juno nomination for the song "Julian" in the R & B category which they felt was a mislabel. more |
