This week on inside the Music
Jazz chantuese Molly Johnson’s My Playlist
Sunday Jan 11 (3 pm ET Radio 2/9 pm ET/Radio One)
Wed Jan 14 pm ET Radio 2)
This week, the inimitable Molly Johnson sits in the My Playlist host’s chair. She’s picked some of her favourite Canadian artists including k-os, Shad, Cold Specks, Oliver Jones and Ranee Lee.
Molly Johnson has been a part of Canadian music for so long it’s hard to remember when she wasn’t.
First, as a child actor, she performed on stage in big time musicals. Then, in her late teens and early 20s, it was all about being in a band, first Alta Molta and then the harder rocking Infidels…Then there’s her other “organizer” side raising awareness and cash for a variety of causes, including HIV and aids.
But Molly Johnson really found her musical mojo in 2000, with the release of her self-titled debut jazz album. Since then Molly has released five jazz albums, become a bona fide star in France, won a Juno award, a National Jazz award and the order of Canada.
For five years she was weekend host of CBC Radio 2 Morning Weekend.
Molly’s Johnson’s latest album is called “Because of Billie”…a tribute to another icon – Billie Holiday.
