Molly Johnson Releases New EP All I See — A Soulful Blend of Originals and a Tribute to Jacksoul
I’m so excited to finally share something I’ve been working on for a long time. My brand-new EP, All I See, is out today via Universal Music Canada.
This three-track project marks the beginning of a new chapter for me musically. You might have already heard the title track, All I See, which I recorded with CUBE, but I’ve also included two new songs: Sunshine Showers and a very special cover of Jacksoul’s 2004 gem, Still Believe in Love. These songs lean into new-age soul while still holding tight to my jazz and R&B roots, the foundation of everything I do.
I couldn’t have done this without my incredible trio: Davide Di Renzo on drums, Mike Downes on bass, and Robi Botos on piano. They bring so much heart to every note. Sunshine Showers was produced by CUBE alongside John “Beetle” Bailey, and Still Believe in Love was produced by Bailey as well. Covering Jacksoul felt like both an honour and a joy. His music has been part of the fabric of Canadian soul for decades, and this song continues to mean so much.
This release comes right on the heels of another whirlwind Kensington Market Jazz Festival weekend. Organizing and directing that festival every year is a huge labour of love, and it always leaves me inspired to make more music of my own.
As many of you know, my journey has been anything but linear. From my early days on stage as a child performer, to leading punk bands in the 80s and 90s, to jazz stages and royal yachts and beyond, each chapter has shaped me, and I carry all of that into the music I’m creating now.
Alongside making new music, I’m also deeply committed to the Canadian Black History Project, an initiative to update our history books to better reflect the impact and contributions of Black Canadians, including the vital story of the Underground Railroad. That work continues to fuel me creatively and personally.
So here we are: All I See is out in the world. I hope you give it a listen and let it soundtrack a moment in your day. Thank you, as always, for being part of this journey with me. There’s so much more to come.
With love,
Molly
